Statement of Fred Krupp, President of Environmental Defense Fund
“Today’s report shows us that opponents of climate action have it backwards — the real cost to our economy will come if we do not meet this challenge head on. The report uses very conservative assumptions about warming in our atmosphere and still concludes it will cost us trillions in the years ahead — with annual costs rising by 40 percent each decade we delay action. Ignoring climate change is not a solution, it only means higher costs for taxpayers, consumers and businesses. That’s why we need to act quickly to end unlimited carbon pollution from power plants, cut dangerous methane leaks, and modernize our energy economy.”
